These are solar lamps being delivered to Bonthe Island in Sierra Leone, a country in great need. After long civil wars and an outbreak of ebola, this is the place in Sierra Leone that has been hit hardest by the misery.
Solar lamps in Bonthe.
There is little access to electricity, schools, clean water, many things that we take for granted in our part of the world. SLCBO has contributed with solar lamps that are charged during the day in the sunlight, and that light up in the evening. In addition, those who are lucky enough to have a mobile phone can also charge it via the same device.
The solar lamps replace flammable paraffin lamps and harmful exhaust gases from paraffin lamps. They also give children the opportunity for better light in the evening when they do their homework. The women can also use the lamps in their stalls when they run their small local businesses.
