As mentioned initially, the soil, water and fish are present in the area. Agriculture today is not working well as farmers does not have sufficient equipment for good farming. They now live from hand to mouth. The organization wants to get in touch with volunteer farmers or others who can provide relevant equipment or who can provide contact.
The organization will also apply for financial support. A leader for agriculture has already been appointed, a local leader. Together with volunteers from Norway, he will give the farmers, primarily women, a chance to get started with effective farming. The focus will be on growing two important foods in Sierra Leone, cassava and rice. These are also two foods that the population has a relationship with and that everyone has eaten from generation to generation.
In Bonthe, it is the women who primarily farm, while the men fish. Equipment that will be relevant is tractors, small tractors, tractors with harrows, excavators, mini loaders.
